Light the Night Walk, Forest Park, Sept 12, 2008
to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

We participated in the Light the Night Walk, September 12, 2008, at Forest Park (the Muny parking lot, for starters) to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I raised $555!! Our team name was Emma's Gypsies, and we were walking in honor of Emma. This event was awesome! It was a sultry St. Louis night, but not bad. We went to the sign up tent, got our concession coupons and our T-Shirt coupons. (I also raised enough to get a sweatshirt:) Anyway, they had free concessions set up: fruit, water, soda, hotdogs, popcorn, pretzels, etc., and those huge bouncy-houses for the kids to play in. Smash Band was there (and they sounded GREAT!). The St. Louis Fire Dept had two of their ladder trucks there with a flag flown between them and Channel 2 news was there. Some of the walking teams had Easy-Up tents set up and chairs gathered around and brought their own food. Smashband played for a couple hours before the walk and after, so you could sit around & visit & listen to the band. This was a great family event and some people brought their dogs as well. We all gathered around 7:25 p.m. and said Pledge of Allegiance, and then we all lit our balloons and started on the walk by funneling through under the Flag. It took about an hour as we wound our way through the park. It was very moving to be a part of something so big and for such a good cause. People were walking with their dogs, they were pulling their kids in wagons, and almost every team had a person's picture & name on their banner that they were walking for (we had Emma, of course). All these people came to walk to help others like our little Emma. I also appreciate all my sponsors very, very much. This was so awesome!

This is a photo of the flag as we went under to start the walk.
